In a video interview conducted recently in San Jose, TMCnet’s CEO Rich Tehrani asked Net Optics’ vice president of technology Sharon Besser (News - Alert) to quickly provide an overview of his company to TMCnet’s subscribers. Promptly replying, Besser described his business as an intelligent network access solutions provider that caters to about 7,000 customers worldwide. He further added that nearly half of Fortune 500 companies rely on his company’s solutions for data access.

Net Optics (News - Alert) (http://www.netoptics.com/index.asp?Section=home) makes a line of network access hardware appliances that help organizations improve their network efficiency, monitor all aspects of their digital traffic and maintain regulatory compliance in an increasingly complex network environment.

Besser emphasized the fact that lot of innovations were going on at Net Optics. For instance, he mentioned Director xStream, which was a recipient of a 2009 Communications Solutions Product of the Year Award given by TMC (News - Alert). It was recognized for its advancement of voice data and video traffic monitoring.

Further commenting on the corporate culture, Besser described the company as a 16-year-old startup. Fascinated by this label, Tehrani asked Besser to explain why Net Optics was a startup even after being in business for 16 years. Responding to this question, Besser said that a family atmosphere prevails at Net Optics and everyone is energized to innovate.

“We don’t let corporate red tape conquer us--and our slogan is the customer comes first. When we combine all these qualities, we have a great place of work, a place to innovate solutions,” emphasized Besser.

“To be able to keep that culture for so many years is unusual”, commented Tehrani.

When asked to identify new products, Besser pointed to the recently announced data monitoring switch, Director. As per the product description on the company website, Director offers the industry’s highest port-density monitoring access solution, with TapFlow filtering technology to enable a user’s pool of monitoring tools to handle more traffic, more links and more protocols than ever before. With Director as the hub of the user monitoring access platform (MAP), hundreds of critical high-volume data links can be dynamically connected to a sub-station of monitoring tools. TapFlow filtering ensures that each tool sees only the traffic-of-interest for its particular purpose.

Also, Director aggregates, regenerates, switches and filters traffic completely at line speed, even for fully-utilized 10-Gbps ports. Besides TapFlow filtering, other features include media conversion, load balancing, daisy-chain expansion, dual hot swappable power supplies, easy configuration as well as security and reliability.

Similarly, Besser identified a couple drivers helping the company to grow. Amongst them, he acknowledged 10 GE space as one. He said that as users transition to 10 Gbps links, they are expecting 10 times the improvement in performance. In reality, that is not so, he said. You have to optimize your network, and to optimize you need better visibility obviously, Besser added.

The second major driver is low latency, convergence, storage and IP networks, which require a different type of solution. “We are fortunate to generate innovative solution for this market,” noted Besser. As a result, “we have about 5 new customers every week,” he concluded.
