DNS: InterDigital in Pact with Continuous Computing to Develop Intelligent Traffic Management Solutions

InterDigital, a provider of fundamental wireless technologies that are at the core of mobile devices, networks, and services, announced a partnership with Continuous Computing, a global provider of integrated platform solutions that address the mobile broadband capacity challenge, to develop solutions for intelligent traffic management at the network edge.

The intelligent traffic management solutions are the next frontier in addressing the bandwidth crunch, according to InterDigital (News - Alert).

The companies expect an increase in M2M traffic in the near future, so the reduction of the bandwidth and processing load on the core network becomes especially valuable. InterDigital contributes to the standardization of M2M technology and system architecture for standardized end-to-end service capabilities with seamless integration of M2M devices with cellular networks, according to company officials.

The M2M gateways allow network operators to remotely manage and control M2M devices and offer M2M network services to third parties. This gateway function can be integrated on femtocells, home gateways and even smartphones on the edge of the cellular network to handle most bandwidth-heavy security and device management, they added.

Additionally InterDigital leverages Continuous Computing’s (News - Alert) deep expertise in 3G wireless and femtocells by engaging Trillium Professional Services for design, development, integration and testing of InterDigital bandwidth management and M2M solutions with Trillium wireless technologies.

“InterDigital’s holistic bandwidth technologies for solving the bandwidth crunch are in perfect alignment with our roadmap of integrated platform solutions for operators,” said Manish Singh (News - Alert), vice president of product line management for Continuous Computing, in a statement.

Singh added, “InterDigital’s innovations in spectrum optimization, cross-network connectivity and mobility, and intelligent data delivery can directly benefit Continuous Computing’s customers and ultimately the entire wireless ecosystem.”

According to James J. Nolan, executive vice president of research and development at InterDigital, Continuous Computing’s singular focus on the telecom market, combined with a complete product portfolio of hardware, software and professional services, enables the company to provide the solutions that meet InterDigital’s needs from the core all the way to the network edge.

In a related development reported by TMCnet, InterDigital partnered with Cinterion, a provider of M2M communication modules to offer the next-generation M2M solution that offers end-to-end service capabilities for integrating M2M devices with cellular networks.
