Check Point Announces 21400 Appliance for Data Center Security

Check Point Software (News - Alert) Technologies, a provider of solutions for securing the Internet, announced the launch of its new 21400 Appliance.

The new 21400 Appliance combines high-speed networking technologies with lightning fast firewall throughput of up to 100 Gbps and IPS throughput of up to 21 Gbps (default profile).

Company officials claim that the Check Point 21400 is designed to optimize a full range of software blade protections, providing large enterprises and data centers with security and performance.

“The evolution of Internet threats has inspired us to think differently about security. In real-world customer environments, the capacity of appliances to perform multiple advanced security functions is as important as throughput,” said Gil Shwed, founder, chairman and CEO of Check Point Software Technologies, in a statement.

“Our new appliance is customized to expand on security functionality, while increasing performance and traffic volume – executing on our vision of delivering the highest level of security to environments of any size,” Shwed added.

Check Point also announced the launch of R75.20, a new Software Blades release, the Check Point 61000 Security System, a new carrier-grade security solution and the fastest security gateway, and SecurityPower, a new metric for security performance.

“Check Point has created a unique benchmark for the way businesses should be measuring security performance,” said Chris Christiansen, vice president of Security Products and Services at IDC (News - Alert) Research.

“SecurityPower gives companies a clearer picture of how to measure performance needs in hardware, with the security needs from the software. It's a smart and insightful concept that will help businesses better plan for future capacity and spend on security,” Christiansen added.

In other news, Merrill Lynch recently raised its recommendation on Check Point Software Technologies to “Buy” from “Neutral.” At the same time, Merrill Lynch has raised its target price for the company share price from $59 to $71. Check Point's share price rose 8.1 percent yesterday on Nasdaq to $61.17, giving a market cap of $12.73 billion, after the company published positive second quarter results.
