At Interop 2010 in Las Vegas TMC's (News - Alert)CEO, Rich Tehrani, interviewed CMO and President Erik Norup from Napatech, who said 'we're probably not the traditional company' at an event like this.

He explained that they're 'basically building relationships with other companies that are here,' since they supply components that go inside servers - 'advanced adapters that can analyze network traffic in real time,' he explained,' and basically tell you what the traffic is, analyze and sort it in different ways so you can better understand what goes on with your network.'

The product reads through the traffic, reads through the packets, reclassifies it and presents the whole thing to the software 'in an easy way, so the software can operate faster, and therefore handle more traffic,' he said.

So 'theoretically, it's something that could be put inside a router platform,' or a firewall, Tehrani asked. Norup said it's flexible enough to be used in different ways in different market segments - 'network recording, network monitoring, analysis,' or it could be used for application optimization, stock trading optimization, algorithms, things like that.'

He noted it could also be used on 'lawful intercept,' where you need to know who talks to who when, and on the flip side it can be used for intrusion detection and intrusion protection systems as well.

Addressing the competition in the market, Norup said what they do is very specialized - 'we've been in this business for a long time, since 2003, and we have maybe two or three other competitors in our field.' Even there, he noted, 'we're all targeting different feature sets. It's a very specialized work.'
