DNS - 3scale's Guillaume Balas Predicts Strong Market for APIs

APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) are a new distribution channel for digital assets, whether they are data, content, technology or services. At the last Interop New York 2010 Conference, TMCnet CEO Rich Tehrani interviewed CMO Guillaume Balas about 3scale (News - Alert) and its API Management infrastructure for API providers.

3scale enables its customers to expand beyond their own website and make data, content or services ubiquitous. In addition, 3scale’s API Management infrastructure enables Internet-based companies to secure, control and manage the distribution and usage of their digital assets through APIs or Web services, and to generate revenues.

The hottest kinds of content now, according to Balas, are videos, photos, financial data, or any other types of data.

An added plus is that it takes only a short time to get and running with 3scale – anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.

The subscriber sees it as a white label solution, a branded site, with 3scale not appearing, or maybe appearing just as a small logo, saying it is powered by 3scale.

3scale API Management infrastructure is delivered as Software as a Service (SaaS (News - Alert)), supporting API through management, monitoring, access control, and monetization, says the company.

3scale is cloud-based, and the Barcelona, Spain-based company has a future that is very bright, according to Balas.

Basing his analysis on current and past experience (Guillaume has previously been a senior strategy consultant with Oliver Wyman (News - Alert), advising clients across Europe, the Middle East and Latin America), he said, “The sky is the limit for us.”

“We expect almost an exponential growth over the next three to five years,” Balas adds.
