DNS - Starcomms, Nigeria Picks Performance Technologies' SEGway Signaling Solution

Performance Technologies (News - Alert), a provider of advanced network communications solutions announced that its SEGway Signaling Solution has been selected to upgrade Starcomms' (News - Alert) network in Nigeria.

Being a full service CDMA carrier in the country, Starcomms serves about 3.2 million customers in Nigeria by providing mobile services, Internet broadband services and fixed wireless services.

Starcomms is transitioning its network to a complete IP architecture. The carrier designed a hierarchical network topology using PT’s SEGway signaling solution at the core, as it allows effortless interconnection of IP elements to existing equipment.

Company sources explained that SEGway’s highly reliable solution reduces signaling complexity and provides the ability to view and manage the network from a central location. Also the robust platform provides a single point of interconnect with other networks, and centralized administration of routing. The technology provides a cost-effective transport between cities besides eliminating disadvantages of legacy mesh networks like single points of failure, signaling traffic congestion, and costly operations, administration, and management.

Trino Guzman, head of Engineering from Starcomms said in a release, “It is paramount to us that we work with a supplier that possesses exceptional SS7 expertise. PT’s technology delivers exceptional performance, and their team made our network migration easy, transparent, and seamless. PT meets our high standard of pride when it comes to top performance.”

Patt Rice, senior vice president, Sales, Marketing, and Service for PT said that PT’s versatile signaling platform offers several advantages with regard to the upcoming number portability regulation in Nigeria.

“SEGway enables any operator to quickly, efficiently, and seamlessly introduce Mobile Number Portability to meet the December 2010 deadline,” Rice emphasized.

Also it has been revealed that PT’s SEGway platform is a highly reliable signaling system that enables operators to undertake a smooth migration to IP and SIP Next-Generation Networks. In addition to number portability, it enables message accounting, and advanced routing also.

John Slusser, PT president and chief executive officer expressed his pleasure on adding Starcomms to the SEGway installed base. Starcomms is considered a progressive service provider and the present scenario was an exciting as well as challenging time for African telecommunications operators, he added.

Performance Technologies sources added that telecommunications system architects and carrier network engineers who require details regarding advanced, signaling and next generation telecom solutions like mobile number portability, can learn more about PT’s SEGway and Xpress offerings from the company website.
