DNS - Network Monitoring Solution Offers Maximum Options: Paessler Video

Editor's Note: This article refers to a video interview shot at Interop (News - Alert) 2010. To view TMCnet's entire library of videos from Interop and other industry shows, demonstrations and interviews in our in-house studio, visit our Video News home page.

At Interop this year, TMCnet had the opportunity to speak with a number of key industry players, including Kenneth Sanofsky, General Manager, North America, with Paessler. Sanofsky visited the TMCnet media booth for an interview captured in this video.

Paessler is a network monitoring company that has been around for 14 years. The company offers a full-featured network monitoring tool that services companies throughout the world. Paessler's expanded set of sensors that go to more than 50 sensor devices, ensuring the company can offer a wide ranging solution.

How does this help the customer base? Sanofsky noted it gives them a lot more options. They will typically look at products from other companies and find right away that when they want to do something interesting, they didn't purchase that particular tool. Such tools are provided in the complete solution from Paessler.

"Our philosophy is put everything in one package, make it simple to use and make it simple to deploy," said Sanofsky.

Does it work against Paessler to offer a complete package? "Actually, one of the things we do is provide it at a price point that makes it attractive for even the entry-level small company. So, not only do we have a full-featured product, it is offered in a cost effective way so that the smaller companies can do what only the very large companies have been able to do with much more expensive tools."

When asked what companies will do with the information gathered in monitoring, Sanofsky noted they will use it to understand bandwidth utilization; use it for making budget planning and expenditure decisions as companies can make much more intelligent purchases with that information.

As for differentiation in the market, Sanofsky believes it is based on two things - one is the network manager becomes a much more critical piece of the organization - they can see network faults before they happen.

The second point for differentiation is that the distributed monitoring architecture enables the customer to deploy its technology so it has a core server and remote probes do the collection and bring it back to the core engine for processing and reporting. This process allows for the streamlined management of distributed locations.
