DNS - Email Addiction a Problem?

'Email addiction' is a problem, says Osterman Research. Employees still check email outside of work hours at an astounding 95 percent rate, the firm says. About 76 percent of respondents say they drive while texting. About 78 percent admit to checking messages in the bathroom.

'This reliance and addiction to off-hours email underscores the important role mobile messaging has taken in the business workflow,' says Michael Osterman, Osterman Research president.

Ninety-four percent of respondents check their email after work in the evening and 93 percent do so on weekends. Seventy-nine percent have taken their work-related device with them on vacation, and more than one-third admit to hiding from friends and family in order to check email on vacation. Nearly half of survey respondents admitted to traveling up to 10 miles just to check email during a vacation.

The study found that just one hour of downtime for mobile email would impact 85 percent of respondents. Additionally, 84 percent of respondents believe that their senior manager's ability to make critical, time-sensitive decisions would be affected without access to mobile email.

Some people might not think such affection for 'staying connected' is a problem. For some, it is success.
