DNS - IBM Unveils BigFix Software

Helping IT companies and manages to automate some of the most mundane but essential tasks, IBM has introduced new software to deliver greater security and compliance to thousands of laptops, PCs and servers globally.

The BigFix platform is used by organizations in government, finance, retail, educational, industrial and public utility sectors, states IBM (News - Alert)

Identifying all of a company's PCs, laptops, servers, point-of-sale and virtualized devices, the new software flags when devices are not in compliance with corporate IT standards. Its single dashboard makes the proper fixes across 500,000 machines in minutes, the company has announced. A company can see, change, enforce and report on security policies and system configurations of all endpoint devices in real time with the help of this software.

“As organizations become increasingly more complex, virtualized and distributed, it's critical for them to take proactive steps to secure and manage their IT environment in a consolidated and automated way," said Amrit Williams, CTO of BigFix technology at IBM.  "With BigFix's new virtualization and interface breakthroughs, IT staff can better manage and secure their IT environments,” continued Amrit Williams in a press release.

The company had recently entered into an agreement to acquire BigFix. The acquisition was aimed at accelerating IBM's efforts to help organizations build smarter data centers. IBM has informed that it will leverage BigFix's built-in intelligence to develop a platform that would help the enterprises more intelligently manage their thousands of globally scattered computers by automating security and compliance updates on them. Financial details of the deal however were not disclosed.

The new BigFix Unified Management Software Platform provides features such as improved virtualization management and new role-based interface. Along with this, IBM's comprehensive security capabilities address information security; threat and vulnerability management; identity and access management; application security and physical security. Upgrading BigFix deployments to version 8.0 requires no reboots and customers can upgrade as fast as their change control allows, the company has stated.
