DNS - Barracuda Enhances its Web Application Firewall to Optimize Authentication

Barracuda Networks (News - Alert) Inc., a provider of content security, data protection and application delivery solutions announced the introduction of new integration features for the Barracuda Web Application Firewall.

According to company sources these new features are expected to extend centralization of front-end access controls, simplify management of production Web applications besides enhancing overall security for enterprise networks and assets.

The Barracuda Web Application Firewall is capable of protecting Web applications and Web services from malicious attacks and it also improves the performance and scalability features of applications.

Company sources added that the new features offer integration with two major front-end access control systems for identity management and multi-factor authentication thereby enhancing centralized access controls.

The RSA (News - Alert) SecurID is a powerful two-factor authentication solution which is more reliable than reusable passwords in authentication. Barracuda Web Application Firewall customers can integrate with RSA SecurID to enable optimized authentication before providing access to secure portions of Web applications to users.

Another new feature, the CA (News - Alert) SiteMinder ensures centralized Web access management that enables user authentication and single sign-on, authentication management, policy-based authorization, identity federation and auditing of access to Web applications and portals. Barracuda sources added that its Web Application Firewall customers can use CA SiteMinder for single sign-on capabilities for protected Web applications.

In a release Stephen Pao, vice president of product management for Barracuda Networks said, “Web application security today means more than simply providing application security protocol and content inspection.”

“The Barracuda Web Application Firewall goes beyond traditional Web application point solutions and offers customers a full suite of application delivery capabilities, including load balancing, access control and acceleration, making it the most comprehensive Web application firewall on the market,” Pao emphasized.

Company sources explained that the new centralized front-end access control integrations extend the Barracuda Web Application Firewall’s powerful capabilities beyond LDAP, RADIUS, PKI and other authentication schemes.

The combination of centralized access control capabilities and protocol inspection capabilities help organizations to safeguard against threats such as data leaks and access to unauthorized URLs without any special application-specific tuning or configuration. Also the Barracuda Web Application Firewall streamlines security and credential management via a central configuration management interface that optimizes access control and authentication across all web applications.
