DNS - SonicWALL: Protecting Today's Networks From the Threats of Tomorrow

Editor's Note: This article refers to a video interview shot at Interop (News - Alert) 2010. To view TMCnet's entire library of videos from Interop and other industry shows, demonstrations and interviews in our in-house studio, visit our Video News home page.

TMCnet had the opportunity to speak with a number of key industry players at Interop this year, including SonicWALL (News - Alert). Douglas Brockett VP & GM SonicWALL visited the TMCnet media booth for an interview captured in this video.

Right out of the gate, Brockett focused on the latest for SonicWALL. For this innovative, company, it is all about bringing new secure technology solutions to the market. These new technologies include virtual appliances.

SonicWALL is also announcing 3rd virtual email security appliance and a solution that will allow people to enjoy full malware protection in environments with speeds up to 40Gbps and beyond.

As for customer feedback, users are looking at 10G and are asking 'at level of performance, how can they maintain security'? All technology approaches in the past have said there is a tradeoff. Brockett highlights that SonicWALL is changing that story, offering full protection.

"You really need to scan everything. The bad guys out they're professionals and they know what they are doing. No matter what you are doing, you have to be able to scan every bit of every byte of data that is being plugged into your network," said Brockett.

"When you do that, it uses very large amounts of computing power. What SonicWALL has introduced is an architecture that combines a really smart, assembly-free deep packet software with massively parallel processing technology and packs a massive level of performance into a four rack package."

As for companies that are more applicable, Brocket highlighted areas of higher education with a large population of users, expect higher performance and a lot of applications; and governments also recognize the fact that they need specific technologies in place to protect their systems.

He also noted that a lot of IT managers are really losing control of their networks with consumer apps hosted and running outside of the network. These applications are being brought it without their knowledge as it does not have to be installed to be used.  IT managers don't know what is on the network and they could be introducing malware and causing infections on the network.

The IT manager really needs to go through a discovery process to figure out what apps are running to determine what to implement to protect the network. This area is constantly evolving -  and IT managers - with the help of SonicWALL - must be able to stay ahead of the next attack.

To find out more about SonicWALL and what they are doing to protect networks, check out this video in full.
