DNS - Data-Leak Now Checked Through Data Loss Prevention Technology

The challenges of data loss or identity theft are no less serious than the other serious problems faced by the world population such as terrorism or global warming. The landing of sensitive data on the wrong hands can mean the end for any business and identity theft may result into an end to the peace of your mind.

The Privacy Rights Clearinghouse, a nonprofit organization that tracks data breaches and helps educate consumers, came up with some spine-chilling facts. It reports that in 2010, more than 4 million data records have been lost or breached. Additional data breaches have resulted in the loss of an additional unknown number of records that often contain Social Security numbers, credit information, employment records, health records and other personally identifiable information.

The report stresses on another rather murky fact and this is: many of these losses were from financial services organizations, including banks and financial services, as well as from healthcare organizations and government agencies.

It is crucial for the businesses and their clients that right steps be taken for preventing confidential information from falling in the wrong hands. However, it is easier said than done. Most organizations fail to find out the right solution for secure storage of sensitive data about their customers, partners, employees and operations. When it comes to resorting to technology for protecting business data, organizations can consider seeking solution in data loss prevention technology, or 'DLP.'

Effective DLP solutions first help organizations identify sensitive data that should be protected. Next step involves enforcement of data handling policies to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands.

"Now why should you care about DLP? Is it just another over-hyped technology? Nope -- we consider it to be one of the most significant security technologies to emerge over the past few years. By adding content and context awareness, we can now protect information based on what it is, as opposed to where it's stored or some silly label someone slapped on it as metadata," said Rich Mogull from Securosis, where one can find a good resource for research, articles and blog posts on the topic of DLP.

Code Green Networks delivers data loss prevention solutions that protect private employee and customer information and safeguard intellectual property across all electronic communications channels. Currently a number of financial services firms use Code Green Networks TrueDLP data loss prevention solution.

The company's easy-to-deploy, easy-to-manage content inspection appliances rapidly detect and prevent potential data leaks, so that the organizations are able to mitigate risks emanating from internal sources. This ultimately helps organizations prevent loss of revenue, financial penalties and irreparable damage to a corporation's image, brand and customer loyalty.
