DNS - NetWitness Receives U.S. Patent for Network Analysis



NetWitness (News - Alert) Corporation, offering real-time network forensics and automated threat intelligence solutions, has announced receipt of a new patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for the tools and techniques it employs for network analysis.

According to a press release, the new patent is a development over its currently held patent NetWitness' method of capture, reassembly, port-agnostic service identification, and recursive data extraction, covering all the essentials for network and application layer network forensics. The patent applied for in 2002 defends a core investigative technology in the NetWitness NextGen product suite, and stresses on the exclusive method in which NetWitness models and systematizes the captured network data.

The developed patented methods are constituents of the NetWitness network forensics technology offering an efficient means for treating real-time advanced type of risks and supporting NetWitness’ award-winning interface and matchless investigative capabilities. NetWitness is said to be in the process of developing and introducing methods in the areas of cyber security, distributed systems architecture, real-time data management, and advanced threat analysis solutions.

'This additional patent affirms the unique value of NetWitness' growing intellectual property portfolio,' said Brian Girardi, director of product management for NetWitness Corporation, in a release.  'The issued patent predates recent developments in threat analysis and network capture, validating the approach on which NetWitness has focused for years.  As the market leader, we will continue to innovate and deploy the most capable solutions to deal with advanced security threats.'

NetWitness also offers solutions for a broad range of information security problems such as advanced persistent threat management; sensitive data discovery and advanced data leakage detection; malware activity discovery; insider threat management; policy and controls verification and e-discovery.

NetWitness has offices in US and UK and partner offices in North and South America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.  The clientele list of NetWitness includes National Law Enforcement and Intelligence Agencies, top US and European Banks, Critical Infrastructure, and Global 1000 organizations.
