DNS - 'Google Me' to be the New Facebook?

Rumors have been spreading about a possible Google social network to compete against Facebook (News - Alert). This rumor initiative has been cleverly dubbed 'Google Me.'
Google has been extremely successful in its products and developments, but its main failure is to create a competent social network to combat the largely dominating Facebook, MySpace (News - Alert) and Twitter. Many attempts, such as Buzz, were accompanied by disappointment and failure to compete with twitter. Buzz is mostly used to help promote Google (News - Alert) products. Because of Buzz's disappointment, any new social network powered by Google will probably be completely new, rather than a revamped version of Buzz.
Google already has key components for a successful social media such as Google Profiles, Buzz and an amazing search engine. What it lacks is a centralized base that can tie all these features together. With all this potential, it will only be a matter of time before Google attempts to create such a place or try to incorporate it into an existing network.
When Google was reached for comment, an unnamed representative responded saying that, "We do not respond to rumor or speculation."
According to Yahoo News, Digg co-founder, Kevin Rose, tweeted, "Google to launch Facebook competitor very soon 'Google Me,' very credible source." The tweet disappeared from the site unexpectedly.
Yahoo News further reported that Facebook executive and Quora founder, Adam D'Angelo, stated that, "This is a real project. There are a large number of people working on it. I am completely confident about this," referring to the possibility of a Google social network.
If rumors are true, Google has the potential to create a user friendly social networking site that can harness all the great features and products they have already developed.
