DNS - Agent-less Control for Microsoft DNS and DHCP

Infoblox has announced availability of the Infoblox (News - Alert) Microsoft Management module, an agent-less solution for adding management functionality to Microsoft’s domain name system/dynamic host configuration protocol environments. The solution, which can be used in parallel with existing DNS/DHCP infrastructures running on Infoblox or Microsoft (News - Alert) DNS/DHCP servers, leverages Infoblox’s Grid technology. The result is powerful visibility, control, reliability and IP address management capabilities.

Essentially all IP network applications depend on DNS and DHCP; without them networks would grind to a halt. To enable these critical functions, many enterprises have traditionally relied on Microsoft DNS and DHCP services that are included with Microsoft Windows servers.

In the past, when networks were primarily static, management of DNS and DHCP servers was simpler and home-grown tools using spreadsheets were effective.  However, as networks continue to add IP-enabled devices at an accelerated rate and compounded by the adoption of virtualization, these tools have become impractical.

According to a Forrester Research (News - Alert) report: “Performing the necessary process execution in this new world by following the same old methods will prove catastrophic. Reliance on large numbers of technical experts to perform manual, repetitive work is unsustainable.”… “In fact, many legacy management tools are rendered irrelevant in this environment because they can’t adapt to the changing nature of the environments they manage.
