DNS - Neustar Helps Asian Telco Deal with Number Portability Issues

Neustar, a provider of surveillance, clearinghouse, and directory services to the global communications and Internet industry, announced that Asia’s leading telecom services provider CITIC 1616 Holdings Limited has selected PathFinder to enable the delivery of IP services across operator networks.

PathFinder is a GSMA (News - Alert)-managed service operated by Neustar. It enables operators to route telecommunications traffic and interconnect with other operators.

“Based on the telephony mapping standard, ENUM, PathFinder is unparalleled in data integrity and now covers approximately 85 percent of the telephone numbers worldwide that can be ported,” company officials added.

The solution, according to company officials, will prepare CITIC 1616 (News - Alert) to meet the challenges associated with number portability and promote growth in new services.

“Through PathFinder, CITIC 1616 will be able to deliver its IP-based services across network boundaries,” said Steve Edwards, senior vice president, Carrier Services at Neustar, in a statement. “We are pleased that CITIC 1616, which delivers innovative, telecommunication services to more than 527 operators across the world, has chosen PathFinder.”

PathFinder is being adopted by a large number of Asian operators as Asia continues to advance its leadership in IP-based services.

Sutton Cheung, chief technology officer of CITIC 1616, said the company selected PathFinder based on its successful history of enabling interoperability across the globe.

“As the Asian telecommunications market continues its aggressive rollout of IP-based services, it is increasingly important for CITIC 1616 to be able to deliver services across network boundaries,” Cheung added.

Neustar and the GSMA supply PathFinder to more than 60 service providers across the globe, the company said. The demand for PathFinder increases as the growth in next-generation telecommunications services continues to accelerate.

Earlier this year at the GSMA Mobile World Congress (News - Alert), Neustar introduced its Mobile Barcode Clearinghouse Services. Read the full report here.
