DNS - Oracle Sets Sights of AmberPoint Acquisition

For a company that claims to be the world’s largest enterprise software company, you would think Oracle would not be concerned about its size. According to a recent post on the Channel Web, Oracle saw more value than just the $7.4 billion purchase of Sun Microsystems (News - Alert). The company also has its eye on AmberPoint.

Oracle (News - Alert) has its sights set on acquiring this supplier of service-oriented architecture management software, but the sum has yet to be announced. The enterprise software giant expects to close the acquisition of Oakland, Calif.-based AmberPoint by mid-year.

Software developed by AmberPoint is designed to help businesses diagnose and resolve issues in application performance and business transactions. Considering this area is a key focus for Oracle, this new acquisition would help to round out the provider’s already robust portfolio.

“We expect the addition of AmberPoint's products to Oracle Fusion Middleware SOA Suite will provide stronger end-to-end governance that allows customers to manage the entire lifecycle of SOA-based solutions, providing visibility and management across heterogeneous environments,” said Thomas Kurian, Oracle executive vice president, product development, in a statement.

Oracle believes there are a number of other benefits to the AmberPoint acquisition, including insurance claims processing where multiple applications must work together. The company’s toolset is expected to become part of the Oracle Fusion Middleware product line, thereby extending the capabilities of the Oracle SOA Suite, Oracle SOA Governance and Oracle Enterprise Manager.

In other Oracle news, the company announced last month that as a result of a partnership with Wipro Technologies, the two companies have reportedly launched the Oracle Application Integration Architecture Process Integration Pack for the retail industry.

The Oracle AIA PIP offers customers a pre-configured, supportable and upgradeable integration of the retail merchandising execution applications with the financial operation control applications.

In January, Enpirion, an analog semiconductor company with expertise in power management, announced is has standardized an Oracle Accelerate solution fromBizTech for Oracle CRM On Demand Release 16.
