San Diego Police Foundation and ESET Kick-Off National Internet Safety Month with Launch of SafetyNet eLearning Guide

SAN DIEGO --(Business Wire)--

The San Diego Police Foundation today announced the launch of SafetyNet eLearning, a free online Internet safety guide for parents, educators and concerned adults. Created by ESET North America as part of its Securing Our eCity initiative, the SafetyNet eLearning guide allows busy adults to learn - at their own pace and on their own schedule - what needs to be done to keep kids safe online. Initial support for the creation of the SafetyNet eLearning guide was given by the AT&T (News - Alert) Foundation. The SafetyNet eLearning guide is available to all online users at www.smartcyberchoices.org.

The launch of the SafetyNet eLearning guide coincides with the start of National Internet Safety Month and will be followed by a free Internet safety seminar for San Diego parents and educators. The event will be hosted by The San Diego Police Foundation and San Diego Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (SD-ICAC). During the event, SD-ICAC will provide parents with information on cyberbullying as well as other online threats associated with social media outlets and online gaming.

About the San Diego Police Foundation

Founded in 1998, the Police Foundation seeks to create a safer San Diego by funding vital equipment and training needs of the SDPD as well as related community outreach and crime-prevention programs. With a shrinking city budget and rising community needs, this is more difficult - and more important - than ever.

The San Diego Police Foundation raises funds, administers grants, promotes awareness of the public safety cause, and provides the SafetyNet: Smart Cyber Choices® program to keep children safe in cyberspace. The Foundation exists to create a safer San Diego, online and on the street.

About the San Diego Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (San Diego ICAC)

Created to help state and local law enforcement agencies enhance their investigative response to offenders who use the Internet, online communication systems and other cyber technology to sexually exploit children, San Diego ICAC is a collaboration of 18 local and federal law enforcement agencies working to protect children.
